'pallet table' by dutch concept designer wendy plomp is made from compressed sawdust.
here the production method lends the material relief and depth; qualities that make it
possible to design tabletops with pressed-in, round recesses for plates, or square ones
for books. in using saw dust, this project brings new life to an old waste product.

'message in a box'

another project initiated by plomp is 'message in a box', a concept piece that reevaluates
the application of cheap, industrial cardboard. known for being a commoditized waste
product of commercial packaging, 'message in a box' encourages spontaneous new
applications for this material such as the cardboard carpets shown above.

wendy plomp sees her work as illustrations come to life, much like a 3D collage.
in some ways, she sees herself as a storyteller, inspired by the irony and drama of daily
life, bringing together the incompatible with the compatible which creates something
fresh and unexpected. with a keen eye for observing how people live, she often draws
her influences from the way people define their personal and private lives.

she developed the logo and identity design.

dutch invertuals brings together design academy graduates from various disciplinary
backgrounds such as product, graphic, food, spatial, fashion to material design.
in collaboration with verger, dutch invertuals create unusual applications of everyday
materials. the collective will be presenting their work at the verger store between
april 14-19 during milan design week 2010.
